Maple Soy/Tamari Tofu Steaks

Wonderfully delicious, nutritious and balanced plant based protein. These tofu steaks are easy to make with the marinade of fresh spices that even if you don't like tofu you will love this recipe, as will the whole family.

Equipment

  • 1 glass mixing bowl
  • 1 grater
  • 1 garlic crusher
  • 1 Sharp knife
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 grill top or bbq
  • 1 tongs

Ingredients
  

spices & herbs

  • 2 tbsp ginger root Organic
  • 2 tbsp turmeric root Organic
  • 2 garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 fresno chilli chopped
  • 1 small jalapeno chopped
  • 1 small bunch parsley chopped
  • 1 small bunch cilantro/ coriander chopped
  • 2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika

plant based

  • 24 ounces extra firm tofu, pressed between cloth or paper towels 2 packets
  • 1 large lemon juiced
  • 1 cup tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sriracha optional
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil toasted
  • 1 cup maple syrup

Grain

  • 2 cups Quinoa Or Rice, Cous Cous, Farro

Instructions
 

  • After pressing the tofu to reduce the liquid, cut the tofu with the longer side up. slice down the middle to make two rectangles. place face down on a cutting board and make 4 to 6 squares. If you like you could with your sharp knife make a cross pattern which can allow the marinade to seep further. Set aside on towel or paper towels
  • With all your spice ingredients and chopped herbs in the mixing bowl, add the lemon juice and lightly toss.
    Save a quarter cup for later to add to cooked grain.
  • whisk all the marinade ingredients together combining. Add now all ingredients into one dish. Add the tofu steaks making sure to cover and coat. Set aside for at least 15 minutes
  • While waiting for tofu to marinade, prepare your grain of choice.
  • Have your grill top or bbq medium high and place tofu steaks to cook. Cook 10 minutes each side allowing the tofu to brown.
    Reserve the remaining marinade to add to rice, Quinoa or your choice of grain.
